How Much Can DeShon Elliott Help? | Steelers Morning Rush

Steelers

Welcome to Steelers Morning Rush, our new daily short-form podcast with Alan Saunders, giving a longer perspective on a single news topic surrounding the Pittsburgh Steelers or the National Football League.

Today, it’s how the Pittsburgh defense can defend Kansas City Chiefs star tight end Travis Kelce. Kelce is one of the best ever to play his position, and while he hasn’t been as statically dominant this year as he has been in the past, he can still make even a well-conceived scheme against him look silly.

Last week against the Baltimore Ravens, the Steelers didn’t even come close to covering tight ends Mark Andrews and Isaiah Likely on a pair of waltz-in touchdowns. Part of that was probably caused by the absence of strong safety DeShon Elliott, who missed the last two games with a hamstring injury. If Elliott returns — it looks like he will — how much of a difference can he make?

Alan breaks it down.
