How Tua Tagovailoa’s Health Changed the Course of the 2020 Draft

The very top of the 2020 NFL Draft went as predicted, with Joe Burrow going to the Cincinnati Bengals and Chase Young following to the Washington Redskins.

Then, the Detroit Lions held fast at No. 3 to take Ohio State corner Jeff Okudah and the New York Giants took their pick of a deep group of tackles with Andrew Thomas at No. 4 before a second quarterback was taken.

That’s when the Miami Dolphins, owners of three first-round draft picks, selected Alabama star Tua Tagovailoa. Tagovailoa could have been in contention for the No. 1 overall pick alongside Burrow, if not for a series of injuries in college, culminating with a potentially career-threatening hip injury suffered in his senior season with the Crimson Tide.
