How Will Steelers Slow Down Falcons TE Kyle Pitts?
Steelers Morning Rush: How will the Steelers defense slow down athletic Falcons tight end Kyle Pitts?
Welcome to Steelers Morning Rush, our new daily short-form podcast with Alan Saunders, giving a longer perspective on a single news topic surrounding the Pittsburgh Steelers or the National Football League. Today, it’s the Week 1 matchup with the Atlanta Falcons.
There will be several key matchups for Pittsburgh, including the young interior offensive linemen making their first career starts against Grady Jarrett, Beanie Bishop in his first game against veteran slot receiver Ray-Ray McCloud, whether or not Joey Porter Jr. will shadow Drake London and more.
But the matchup Alan wants to focus on is how Teryl Austin’s defense will approach the task of covering hyper-athletic Atlanta tight end Kyle Pitts, because of how often the Steelers will face similar tasks this season. With David Njoku, Isaiah Likely and Travis Kelce featured prominently in the team’s stretch run, Sunday’s Pitts problem could be a season-long one if it doesn’t go well for DeShon Elliott, Patrick Queen and the gang.
