Insider Reveals Aaron Rodgers’ Timeline Could Be Much Longer

NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport thinks it could still be much longer until quarterback Aaron Rodgers make his decision.

The Pittsburgh Steelers’ wait continues for quarterback Aaron Rodgers to make a decision on where he wants to play in 2025. Unfortunately, NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport thinks the wait could be much longer, too.

In fact, Rapoport believes Rodgers could wait up until the 2025 NFL Draft, just as he did in 2023.

“I don’t get the sense he’s in a hurry at all. I really don’t, and there’s no deadline for him to be,” Rapoport said. “He doesn’t have to decide by any time. He sort of controls this thing. There’s no actual deadline. So if you’re the Giants or the Vikings or the Steelers or whoever ends up signing Aaron Rodgers, if it’s anyone, then you’d like it now. But the next point is do you draft someone? And that’s a month or so away. All of us would like this done sooner rather than later. I don’t get the sense Rodgers is in any hurry at all. Could it go all the way to the draft like it did two years ago? Maybe it could.”

If that is how things play out, it certainly puts the Steelers, along with the Giants and Vikings, in a tough spot. By then, teams would like to know what positions they need to address in the draft, but this scenario has happened before.

Rodgers was traded to the New York Jets one day before the start of the 2023 NFL Draft and he had control over the situation with a no-trade clause in his contract.

The 41-year-old now finds himself in a very similar position with over a month until the start of the 2025 NFL Draft.

It remains to be seen whether the Steelers or any of the other interested teams are willing to wait that long for Rodgers to make a decision. But Pittsburgh does have some quarterback insurance after reuniting with Mason Rudolph last week.

Of course, the Steelers would prefer to have Rodgers as their starter over Rudolph in 2025, but he gives them the ability to be patient while Rodgers continues to weigh his options.

Only time will tell whether the Giants and Vikings share that same viewpoint, but if so, they wait will continue on Rodgers.

In 2024, Rodgers completed 368 of 584 passes (63%) for 3,897 yards, 28 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.
