IR Return Will Wait for Two Key Steelers Backups
Key Pittsburgh Steelers backups Dylan Cook and Tyler Matakevich will have to wait another week to make their returns from the injured reserve list.
PITTSBURGH — It looked like the Pittsburgh Steelers might get two key backups off the injured reserve for their Week 8 game against the New York Giants, but instead both Dylan Cook and Tyler Matakevich will wait another week to make their returns.
Cook was a full participant in practice all this week, while Matakevich was listed as limited for three straight practices, but both were ruled out against the Giants.
Cook has been out the entire 2024 regular season after suffering a Lisfranc injury. The Steelers opened his 21-day practice window on Oct. 17, so he will need to be reinstated to the active roster before the team’s next game on Nov. 10 at the Washington Commanders. Calvin Anderson, who was signed as a free agent after Cook’s injury, has been serving as the No. 3 tackle in his place. Guard Spencer Anderson can also play tackle.
Matakevich has been out since suffering a left hamstring injury during the Steelers’ Week 2 win over the Denver Broncos. The veteran spacial teamer worked only that role in the first two weeks for the Steelers. Tight end Rodney Williams II has largely filled the role Matakevich had been filling in his absence.
