Jaguars Blast George Pickens, Mock ‘Hope’ Remark after Win
PITTSBURGH — The Jaguars get the bragging rights. After a week of trash talk leading up to the game between George Pickens and the Jaguars defensive backs, Pickens had just one catch for a touchdown. Meanwhile, they shut down the Steelers’ offense, winning 20-10 comfortably over a team that failed to execute continuously and fell short at a moment’s notice. Of course, that means the Jaguars get to fire the shots back after Pickens called them a ‘hope defense’ on Thursday.
“I think their D-Line they depend on their D-Line a lot,” Pickens said. “With their team having a lot of first-round picks on that D-Line, that’s what they depend on a lot. They kinda hope, hope that the guys hold up long enough, it’s kinda a hope defense.”
So, after the win, safety Rayshawn Jenkins got the last laugh. He initially said earlier in the week that he would trust the cornerbacks more than he believed George Pickens would step up to the plate. After the win, Jenkins threw some severe shade Pickens’ way.
“Man, you know, the hope,” Jenkins said via Demetrius Harvey of Jacksonville.com. “Our defense was going to do whatever, I don’t know how they thought we were going to come in and play. But we would’ve hoped that they would come in and put up a better fight than that.”

With Johnson there, too, the Steelers have a talented tandem of wide receivers to bank on. Despite the frustrating penalties at times that Pickens can get called for, his talent on the field continues to showcase itself. Now, it’s not just the jump balls; his route running is starting to become a strength. But the Jaguars clouded him to his side and were able to slow him down. The offense, as a whole, never got going, hurting themselves more often than not. That caused the group to sputter.
Now, they must take trash talk like this on the chin. When they talk up a game, it will get shot back in their direction. Pittsburgh is still 4-3, but they are not playing like a good football team. They will have to solve it quickly, as suddenly a dynamic Titans team comes to Pittsburgh on Thursday to try and knock the Steelers off and down a few pegs.
