Wide receiver Mike Williams will be active for the New York Jets on Sunday Night Football against the Pittsburgh Steelers amid trade talks between the clubs about the future of the veteran wide out.
Williams hit the trade market this week after the Jets acquired Davante Adams from the Las Vegas Raiders, and the Steelers are among the teams that have shown the most interest in acquiring the 30-year-old Williams, along with the New Orleans Saints and his former club, the Los Angeles Chargers.
Williams was held out of practice for personal reasons during practice this week as trade talks got underway, but without a deal done, Williams is expected to dress for the Jets during their trip to Pittsburgh on Sunday night.
The 6-foot-4, 218-pound wide receiver will likely serve as the fourth wide receiver for the Jets on Sunday, behind Adams, Garrett Wilson and Allen Lazard.
Meanwhile, Steelers general manager Omar Khan and Jets GM Joe Douglas have put discussions between the teams about Williams on hold until after the Week 7 game between the clubs, according to a report by Adam Schefter of ESPN.
Williams has not been a major factor for the Jets this season, even before the Adams trade. Over the last two games, he has a total of two catches for 25 yards. On the season, Williams has hauled in 10 of 17 targets for 145 yards. He has not scored a touchdown.
The Steelers have been searching for an upgrade at wide receiver since trading Diontae Johnson to the Carolina Panthers back in March and have been aggressive in the trade market. Despite that, the Steelers failed to land San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk in what would have been a blockbuster trade just before the season and were one of the several teams spurned by the Raiders in pursuit of Adams earlier this week.
