Joe Schobert Wearing 45, Working With First Team

PITTSBURGH – Joe Schobert officially has a number, and he is officially on the Steelers practice field.

With Schobert thrown into the starting lineup from day one, the Steelers will be looking for a lot of worth in what Schobert brings to the table. He is already manning the defense beside Bush, and wearing the green dot on his helmet as the defensive signal-caller. Schobert also worked some as the Dime linebacker in sub packages for the Steelers, suggesting that he could be an every-down player.

The Pro Bowl linebacker will wear No. 45 as he works alongside Devin Bush at inside linebacker for the Steelers. The jersey was last worn by linebacker Jarvis Miller this preseason. Jayrone Elliott wore 45 in 2020.

The Jaguars will already be paying $3.65 million of Schobert’s salary in 2021. So, it appears the Steelers have a former Pro Bowl linebacker starting with a minimal cap hit and only a sixth-round pick to give up for it.
