Josh Allen, Bills Starters Expect Significant Playing Time vs. Steelers
Josh Allen and the rest of the Buffalo Bills starters are expected to play a quarter and a half against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Saturday.
The Pittsburgh Steelers will face the best the Buffalo Bills have to offer in their second preseason game of the 2024 season on Saturday at Acrisure Stadium, as quarterback Josh Allen and company are expected to play for a quarter and a half, perhaps even more than head coach Mike Tomlin plans to send out the Steelers’ first team.
Tomlin said on Thursday that Russell Wilson will start at quarterback and that his first team will be out there for about four series. Buffalo head coach Sean McDermott announced on Friday that Allen, Stefon Diggs, Von Miller and the rest of the Bills stars will be out there for a quarter and a half against the Steelers.
That’s slight more time than they played in Buffalo’s preseason opener. In that game against the Chicago Bears, Allen only threw three passes, going 2 of 3 for 22 yards before being replaced by former Steelers quarterback Mitch Trubisky.
The first0-team Buffalo offense didn’t perform all that well in the opener. They went three and out on the first drive, with Allen completing a pass to Khalil Shakir around two James Cook runs that lost a total of one yard.
The same unit went back out for the second drive, and Allen hit Curtis Samuel for 15 yards, but missed Dawson Knox. He also had a seven-yard scramble. Cook ran twice for three yards, before the quarter ended and the second team came out.
Wilson did not play in the Steelers’ opener, when Justin Fields completed five of six for 67, but was sacked twice and fumbled twice. Najee Harris ran three times for nine yards and Jaylen Warren ran three times for 11 yards.
