JuJu Smith-Schuster Says He’d Like to Re-Sign with Steelers for Four More Years
Steelers wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster said that he’d like to re-sign with the Steelers in a video produced by the team on Thursday night.
Smith-Schuster was answering the question, “What do you want for Christmas?”
He said that he’d like to re-sign with the team.
“I would want to re-sign with the Steelers for four more years. That would be nice.”
Smith-Schuster, who is out for the rest of the season after shoulder surgery, is set to become a free agent after the 2021 season. He signed a one-year, $8 million contract before the 2021 season to remain in Pittsburgh after his rookie deal expired.
The Steelers have much more cap space to work with in 2022 than they did this season, when the lack of revenue from the pandemic-impacted 2020 season caused a salary cap crunch.
But the team has a significant number of players that are expected to hit free agency, including quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, cornerback Joe Haden, safety Terrell Edmunds, wide receiver James Washington, offensive linemen Trai Turner and Chukwuma Okorafor and tight end Eric Ebron.
