Justin Fields Understood the Assignment | Steelers Morning Rush

Steelers Morning Rush: Justin Fields understood what the team needed him to do against the Falcons -- a big step forward.

Steelers Morning Rush Justin Fields

Welcome to Steelers Morning Rush, our new daily short-form podcast with Alan Saunders, giving a longer perspective on a single news topic surrounding the Pittsburgh Steelers or the National Football League. Today, it’s how Justin Fields changed his game to help earn a victory over the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday.

Fields had made 40 career starts before taking over for injured Pittsburgh starter Russell Wilson in a move that wan announced and hour and a half before kickoff at Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Sunday. Only 13 times out of 40 had he done what he did on Sunday: not turn the ball over.

Fields and Zach Frazier fumbled the opening snap — the first of the rookie center’s career — but after that, Fields didn’t put the ball in harm’s way again, letting Chris Boswell and the defense win the game for the Steelers.
