Kalabrya Haskins, the wife of the late Dwayne Haskins, issued a statement Wednesday afternoon following his death on Saturday in a car accident.

“I would like to express my sincerest gratitude to every loving soul who has supported our family during this arduous time of loss,” Haskins said. “The overwhelming thoughts and prayers have been fuel for our emotional depletion. All of your blessings have been greatly valued and appreciated. The meaningful touches and impact Dwayne made as a husband, son, brother, teammate, and friend is a timeless treasure imbrued in our hearts. I am truly grateful to everyone who has been on our side as we mourn his untimely passing.”

Haskins signed with the Steelers in January. During his one season with the Steelers, he became a strong force in the Steelers locker room. The outpour of support from former teammates in Pittsburgh, Washington, and Ohio State speaks volumes about the player off the field. Many will know Haskins as a quarterback, but there was more to him than just that. As a person, Haskins made a big impact in a short period of time.

“He had the smile of a rainbow that touched the diversity of so many,” Haskins said. “He will forever rest and remain in our hearts til the end of time.”

The Steelers will hold a memorial for Haskins on April 22nd in Pittsburgh at Allegheny Center Alliance Church.
