Kordell Stewart to Play in Jerome Bettis’ Celebrity Golf Outing
Hall of Fame running back Jerome Bettis is set to host his second annual Blue and Gold Golf Classic this spring in Atlanta, and he will be joined by one of his former Steelers teammates. Bettis announced Monday that former Pittsburgh quarterback Kordell Stewart will be one of the celebrities participating when the outing tees off in a few months.
“I’m excited to welcome my former teammate and good friend Kordell Stewart to my Blue and Gold Celebrity Golf Classic lineup,” Bettis said Monday.
Held at East Lake Golf Club, the tournament will benefit the Notre Dame Endowment Program and Bettis’ Bus Stops Here Foundation.
Bettis and Stewart played eight years together in Pittsburgh. The duo won five division titles and an AFC championship in 1995 during their shared Steelers tenure.
Bettis told Golf Channel last year that he got started golfing in part because of Stewart, while the two were teammates in Pittsburgh.
“I would go out and play with him and he would kick my butt,” Bettis said. “I was just his ATM machine. I would bet him every time we would play. I was terrible. But what happened was, and what he didn’t count on, was I said enough is enough. As soon as I retired, I started working on me game. … Then all of a sudden, my game started coming around. Now, he can’t beat me to save his life.”
Bettis has played in several major pro-am and celebrity tournaments, including the 2021 American Century Championship near Lake Tahoe, California in July.
