Legendary Pittsburgh-area broadcaster and Steelers Nation Radio host Stan Savran has died at the age of 76, according to multiple media reports.

Savran was best known for his Sportsbeat talk show on Fox Sports Net Pittsburgh, which he co-hosted with Guy Junker, and helped going the catchphrase, “Stan, Guy, love the show.”

Nicknamed “The Godfather” of Pittsburgh sports talk, Savran worked for several outlets in the Pittsburgh market, including WWSW-AM, KQV-AM, WTAE-TV, AT&T SportsNet Pittsburgh, ESPN Radio Pittsburgh and Steelers Nation Radio, where he hosted a mid-day show until his health declined in recent weeks. He also wrote columns for the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

In 2022, Savran revealed that he had been battling lung cancer, and he had surgery to amputate his foot in April 2023. He continued to work throughout his health problems, covering the hot start to the Pittsburgh Pirates season and the 2023 NFL Draft.

“I don’t think I could retire without knowing what I would do,” Savran said in 2020. “Until I can answer that question, I can’t retire.

“I’d get up the same time, drink a pot of coffee. Read the paper or online. But then it would be 8:15. Now what am I going to do? I can’t play tennis eight hours a day.”

Savran is a member of the Western Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame and the Pittsburgh Pirates Media Wall of Fame.

Born Stanley Savransky in Cleveland, Ohio in 1947, Savran attended Miami University and had stops at Columbus, Ohio; Lawton, Oklahoma and Orlando, Florida before coming to Pittsburgh in 1976.
