The Super Bowl is staying out west. Super Bowl LXI in 2027 will be played at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, California, according to a report by Adam Schefter of ESPN.

The game will be the second Super Bowl played at SoFi Stadium after Super Bowl LVI in 2022 after the 2021 season, the second time a Super Bowl was played in a home stadium of a participating team. The Los Angeles Rams beat the Cincinnati Bengals, 23-20 in that game.

Awarding the game to Los Angeles continues in a western trend in Super Bowl assignments in recent years. After the 2022 game in L.A., it went to Glendale, Arizona in 2023 and will be played in Las Vegas, Nevada this coming February. Following a 2025 trip to New Orleans, it will be back out west for games in Santa Clara, California in 2026 and L.A. again in 2027.

In total, six consecutive Super Bowls will be played west of the Mississippi River and five of six will be played in the Pacific Time Zone.

SoFi Stadium will become the 15th venue to hold two or more Super Bowls, and the third in the Los Angeles area following the Rose Bowl (1977, 1980, 1983, 1987 and 1993) and Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum (1967, 1973).

In total, the greater Los Angeles Area will be holding its ninth Super Bowl, third behind Miami (11) and New Orleans (11 in 2025). Tampa is fourth with five.

The Steelers have played in eight Super Bowls, two at the Orange Bowl in Miami and one each at Tulane Stadium in New Orleans, the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California, Sun Devil Stadium in Tempe, Arizona, Ford Field in Detroit, Raymond James Stadium in Tampa and Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

Super Bowl LXI will be broadcast by ABC, the first time the network will air the NFL title game since 2006.
