Lucky Threads? Steelers Look to Continue Strong Record in Color Rush Uniforms
The Pittsburgh Steelers are looking to continue their strong record when wearing their Color Rush jerseys on Monday Night Football.
Since the turn of the century, the Pittsburgh Steelers have worn many different alternate jerseys, and they’ll continue that on Monday Night Football, wearing their Color Rush jersey that was designated as one of the team’s alternates in the 2016 season.
Compared to the Steelers normal jersey, the Color Rush jersey features golden block numbers, all-gold sleeve stripes and black pants with a gold stripe.
The Steelers first introduced the Color Rush jersey during the 2016 season and have worn them at least once in each season since then. The Steelers debuted the Color Rush uniforms on Christmas Day in 2016, when they defeated the Baltimore Ravens, 31-27. This was the game where Antonio Brown made the “Immaculate Extension” to win the AFC North title.
Overall, the Steelers are 7-3 when donning the fan-favorite alternate jersey.
STEELERS IN COLOR RUSH JERSEYS
? Dec. 7, 2023 vs. New England Patriots, 21-18 L
In probably the team’s worst performance in their Color Rush jerseys, the Steelers laid an egg on Thursday Night Football against the New England Patriots. The Pats came to town with just two wins under their belts, but the Steelers handed them an early 21-point lead thanks to some leaky defense and a Mitch Trubisky interception. The defense tightened, giving Trubisky and company multiple changes to come back and win it late, but the Steelers weren’t up to the task, losing their second of what would become a three-game losing streak.
? Nov. 20, 2022 vs. Cincinnati Bengals, 37-30 L
The Cincinnati Bengals played with Ja’Marr Chase and Joe Mixon left the game with an injury, but Joe Burrow and Tee Higgins were enough to light up the Pittsburgh Steelers. Burrow hit Higgins 13 times for 148, while backup running back Samaje Perine scored three touchdowns and practice squad wide receiver Trenton Irwin nabbed the fourth. The Kenny Pickett-led Pittsburgh offense tried to keep up, with Najee Harris contributing two touchdowns and Pickett hitting George Pickens for a third. The comeback bid ran out of time, but the growth of the Steelers showed in its first 30-point game of the season.
? Nov. 8, 2021 vs. Chicago Bears, 29-27 W
Chris Boswell hit a game-winning field goal with 30 seconds left to give the Steelers the victory, just after it looked like Justin Fields was going to lead the Chicago Bears to an upset. Fields hit Darnell Mooney on a 16-yard touchdown to give the Bears the lead with 1:46 to play. As he did so many times in his career, Ben Roethlisberger led the Steelers right back, directing the offense on a game-winning drive, with 22-yard completion to Diontae Johnson setting up Boswell’s field goal.
? Dec. 2, 2020 vs. Baltimore Ravens, 19-14 W
Delayed multiple times due to a COVID-19 outbreak among the Baltimore Ravens, this game kicked off a 3:40 p.m. on a Wednesday afternoon. The Steelers entered at 10-0 and muddled through a sloppy game where they could not run the ball at all. Ben Roethlisberger threw 51 times, completing 36 for 266 yards. His 1-yard touchdown to JuJu Smith-Schuster was the final margin of victory, and Benny Snell finally got the running game going to run out the clock late.
? Dec. 15, 2019 vs. Buffalo Bills, 17-10 L
In the first matchup between the Steelers and the Buffalo Bills with quarterback Josh Allen under center, it was the Buffalo defense that set the tone in this game. The Bills intercepted Steelers quarterback Devlin “Duck” Hodges four times and also forced a fumble. The Steelers defense was able to minimize the first two turnovers and Steelers were leading in the third quarter, when Tre’Davious White picked off Hodges and returned it into field goal range to tie the game. The Bills took the lead on an Allen pass to Taylor Kroft with 8 minutes to play. The Steelers defense got Hodges three chances to tie it, but the Steelers punted once and Hodges was intercepted in the end zone twice in the final two minutes of the game, sealing the team’s first loss in their Color Rush uniforms.
