PITTSBURGH — Steelers quarterback Mason Rudolph was knocked out of the game against the Baltimore Ravens after taking a high, hard shot from safety Earl Thomas in the third quarter.
With the Steelers trailing 17-14 in the third quarter, Rudolph scrambled to his left to avoid pressure and found a wide-open James Washington for a 32-yard gain.
But as Rudolph released the ball, Thomas jumped and his helmet drove into the face mask of the Steelers’ second-year quarterback.
Rudolph immediately collapsed the turf and did not move. Offensive tackle Alejandro Villanueva frantically called for the training staff.
After several minutes down on the field, Rudolph eventually walked off with the help of his teammates. Rudolph was diagnosed with a concussion by the Steelers medical staff and was ruled out from returning to the game.
The Steelers announced that Rudolph left the stadium and will be taken to a hospital for evaluation.
Thomas was penalized for roughing the passer, a 15-yard personal foul.
Rudolph was replaced on the field by rookie Devlin Hodges.
