Mike Tomlin Not Closing the Door on Chris Oladokun Return
PITTSBURGH — Chris Oladokun was released on Tuesday, but that does not mean that the door is closed on a potential return for the seventh-round draft pick. Mike Tomlin was asked about the release of Oladokun on Wednesday, and while it clearly was a decision to move on, it was only a decision to move on for now.
“It’s just decisions that we have to make,” Tomlin said. “it was roster reduction day, and we made five decisions. Those decisions speak to themselves.”
That does not mean that the door on an Oladokun return is gone, however. Tomlin has been in the business long enough to understand to never close a certain door. In fact, he kept it rather open in regards to Oladokun and a potential return on the Steelers practice squad.
“I wouldn’t close the door on anything,” Tomlin said. “You know, in this business, experience has taught me that.”
The Steelers have often carried three quarterbacks in the season with a potential fourth option on the practice squad. Chris Oladokun could be that guy for the Steelers if he wraps back around. While there is certainly nothing set in stone about Oladokun’s status or a return to the team, the fact that Tomlin did not shut the door completely is notable. At the very least, the thought is there for the Steelers.
