PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Steelers will have changes to their coaching staff in the 2025 season. Those changes won’t include head coach Mike Tomlin.
As far as what they will include, those decisions have not yet been finalized, Tomlin said during his season-ending press conference on Tuesday.
Tomlin was asked about potential changes to his coaching staff, and said while he does expect there to be change, those discussions are ongoing.
“I’d imagine that there are going to be some things that change around here on a lot of levels,” he said. “That’s just this game. … I understand that. I’m open to that. …
“I think change in coaching staffs is a component of our business. I certainly don’t think all of our coaches are under contract. Change is a component of it and I acknowledge it, but we are at the very early stages of those types of decisions and discussions.”
It’s unclear which coaches are under contract for 2025. The Steelers do not typically announce the duration of assistant coach contracts. Offensive coordinator Arthur Smith signed a three-year deal last offseason.
Other than that, it’s up to speculation. Coaches such as defensive coordinator Teryl Austin and offensive line coach Pat Meyer have been mentioned as coaches the team could potential move on from.
Tomlin said that he met with president Art Rooney II and general manager Omar Khan on Monday to begin to formulate a plan for personnel for the offseason.
“Those are just the very beginning of multiple conversations in terms of how we wrap a bow around some of the lessons learned,” Tomlin said.
The Steelers, like all NFL teams, almost always have some level of turnover in their coaching staff, but it does not appear that it will be the type of bloodletting that the up-in-arms Steelers fanbase is looking for.
