Mike Williams Sure Doesn’t Look Washed Up | Steelers Morning Rush

Steelers Morning Rush: Mike Williams sure doesn't look washed up after his trade from the New York Jets.

Welcome to Steelers Morning Rush, our new daily short-form podcast with Alan Saunders, giving a longer perspective on a single news topic surrounding the Pittsburgh Steelers or the National Football League. Today, it’s the reports of the demise of veteran wide receiver Mike Williams, which sure seem to have been premature.

Williams is 30 years old and is coming off an ACL injury, so when things didn’t click right away between him, Aaron Rodgers and the New York Jets offense, many assumed that the big-bodied, big-play receiver just didn’t have it anymore.

Williams let people know that was wrong with his spectacular, game-winning touchdown grab in his first game for the Steelers on Sunday. Williams still has the size and contested catch ability that made him a star with the Los Angeles Chargers. He just wasn’t a good fit for what Rodgers wanted to do in New York.

But if you watched the likes of Van Jefferson and Calvin Austin III struggled to come down with Russell Wilson’s deep balls throughout the game on Sunday, before Williams hauled in his winner, it’s clear that Williams is a perfect fit for Wilson and the scheme in Pittsburgh.

Alan breaks it down.
