Minkah Fitzpatrick Contract Aftermath: Steelers Need Another Move

Steelers Now reporter Chris Carter digs deep on the Pittsburgh Steelers and the NFL Monday through Friday all year long on Locked on Steelers. He’s joined by Jenna Harner of WPXI-TV.

The Pittsburgh Steelers made sure to sign Minkah Fitzpatrick for a big payday to keep their superstar safety on the roster, making him the NFL’s highest paid safety. He joins T.J. Watt as being some of the top paid players in the NFL at their positions.

But with Mike Tomlin working a reboot at quarterback with Mitch Trubisky and Kenny Pickett, the Steelers need another addition somewhere on the roster with the money freed up in the salary cap after Stephon Tuitt’s retirement.

Whether it’s defensive line, cornerback, offensive line or backup running back, it’s clear a move is needed as the Steelers are trying to compete now rather than later.

Also, with Fitzpatrick and Watt as the new highest paid stars, they represent the future of the Steelers’ leadership after Cam Heyward. But who else on the team joins them as future leaders for the locker room? Najee Harris, Pat Freiermuth, and others fit the mold.
