Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Mitch Trubisky could be losing more than his starting job after being replaced by rookie Kenny Pickett in Sunday’s loss to the New York Jets.
According to Spotrac, Trubisky would have unlocked a $1 million bonus in his contract had he played 60% of the Steelers’ offensive snaps this season.
But that is just the bare minimum with regards to potential incentives in Trubisky’s contract. Trubisky would be due a $2 million bonus had he played 80% of the snaps.
At best, Trubisky would have incurred a $4 million bonus by playing 80% of the team’s offensive snaps and leading the Steelers to the playoffs.
His contract also includes a $250,000 incentive for making the Pro Bowl in each season of the of the deal as well.
With all signs pointing to Pickett taking the reigns moving forward, it would appear Trubisky’s 2022 salary will remain at $6.285 million barring injury.
Trubisky is due $8 million in salary next season, but the second year of his Steelers deal is not guaranteed.
While the base value of Trubisky’s contract stands at $14.285 million, he could have made a potential $26.785 million had all incentives been achieved.
