Steelers QB Mitch Trubisky

PITTSBURGH — Mitch Trubisky has been the first quarterback out of the gate in each of the Pittsburgh Steelers first two preseason games, and he expects that will be the case again this Sunday against the Detroit Lions, but if he’s certain that will translate to him starting the Steelers’ regular season opener next month in Cincinnati, he’s not willing to say.

“That sounds like a trick question,” Trubisky said before the team’s practice at UPMC Rooney Sports Complex on Wednesday. “I can only assume that I’m going out to practice today.”

Head coach Mike Tomlin said earlier this week that the competition to be the Steelers’ starting quarterback will come down to the final preseason game, and while Trubisky acknowledged that he last game will matter, he said he also feels good about the totality of what he’s showcased to this point.
