Najee Harris Uncertain about Future With Steelers
Soon to be a free agent, Pittsburgh Steelers tailback Najee Harris didn’t give any indication on his future with the team Saturday night.. Mixed signals, if anything.
Harris spoke from both a solo perspective and a team outlook after a 28-14 playoff loss at Baltimore. The season-ending defeat was hardly a surprise, considering the slide the Steelers entered on.
Harris iterated frustration with Pittsburgh’s near-complete loss of steam after a 9-3 start. His comments would have come off as routine if he was under contract to return next year. The fact that he doesn’t clouds them.
“You just gotta go in the film and go in the off-season and really just figure out some stuff that you’ve got to work on personally, and just figure out how can you get better,” Harris said.
There wasn’t any mention of team in those words. However, there was in what he said needs to happen if the Steelers are to have postseason success going ahead.
“There’s stuff that I just don’t wanna say on camera,” Harris said. “There’s some that we’ve talked about on the team that I feel like we need to do. But, you know, really just staying together as a team. Not listening to too much of the outside noise and outside attention. You know, that’s the fastest way to break up a team. I think that, on this … losing streak, I think (there was) paying attention too much of what the media say rather than just doing what we gotta do.”
Asked straightforwardly if he wants to remain with the Steelers, Harris was brief.
“I haven’t really given that much thought at all,” Harris answered.
The team’s first-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, Harris has ran for over 1,000 in all four of his professional seasons, but the Steelers declined his fifth-year option for the 2025 season over the summer, setting up his pending free agency this March.
