UNITY TWP., Pa. — Pittsburgh Steelers running back Najee Harris won’t play in the team’s second preseason game against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Saturday, he told Nick Farabaugh of Steelers Now on Wednesday.
Harris dressed but did not appear in the first preseason game at Acrisure Stadium against Seattle Seahawks on Saturday. He had been out for a while before that game while resting a foot injury. Harris is now fully healthy, but said the decision for him to sit out this Saturday is more about managing his workload before the start of the season.
“They won’t let me go live in practice or even play in the preseason,” Harris said. “I’m probably going to play in the last game.”
Harris, tight end Pat Freiermuth and wide receivers Diontae Johnson and Chase Claypool have all missed time, and he said he’s looking forward to getting the first-team group all together before the end of the preseason.
With Harris out, and second-teamer Benny Snell also out recently with a knee injury, Anthony McFarland and rookie Jaylen Warren have gotten more playing time, and Harris likes what he sees.
“They’re good at what they do,” Harris said. “Jaylen, he turned a lot of heads at camp. He surprised a lot of people. … Anthony has looked really good this whole camp. … He could be that guy, for sure.”
