Many Pittsburgh Steelers fans want the team to give up on signing free agent quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who continues to drag out his decision. But the same can’t be said for everyone.

New Steelers defensive tackle Daniel Ekuale said he’s willing to wait as long as it takes to land the four-time NFL MVP.

“I feel like he’s still got some fire underneath him,” Ekuale said on the “Chipped Ham & Football” podcast. “I feel like last year with the Achilles injury, I feel like he’s going to bounce back big this year. So me playing against him, he is very elite, on that level. Knowing defenses and making checks, all this stuff that all these offenses know. So I feel like with A-Rod, man, I just hope the Steelers get him.”

Ekuale just joined Pittsburgh in March after spending the last four seasons with the New England Patriots, but that hasn’t stopped him from recruiting for his new team that has a massive hole at quarterback.

Mason Rudolph and Skylar Thompson are the only quarterbacks the Steelers have under contract for 2025. Adding Rodgers to that room almost feels like a necessity at this point.

Rodgers is coming off a very disappointing two-year stint with the New York Jets. He tore his Achilles on just the fourth offensive snap in Week 1 of the 2023 season and then threw for 3,897 yards, 28 touchdowns and 11 interceptions as part of the team’s 5-12 finish in 2024.

However, Ekuale is confident Rodgers still has enough gas left in the tank to help the Steelers win now after playing against him last season.

“I let him escape out of the pocket one time and kind of underestimated him,” Ekuale said. “I was like, ‘Oh my God, I didn’t know this dude still got it in him after that Achilles injury he had.’ But yeah, I think A-Rod still got it in him.”

Only time will tell whether the Steelers will land Rodgers, but Ekuale seems to believe it will be worth the wait if they do.
