NFL.com Bucky Brooks Declares Kenny Pickett ‘Pro-Ready QB1’
On Thursday night, the Pittsburgh Steelers took Pitt quarterback Kenny Pickett at the No. 20 pick, staying with the hometown pick over other picks like Liberty quarterback Malik Willis, Cincinnati quarterback Desmond Ridder, Ole Miss quarterback Matt Corrall and more.
NFL.Com’s Bucky Brooks in his pick-by-pick analysis wrote that Pickett is ready to take snaps and become the No. 1 quarterback for the Steelers.
“As an experienced prospect with A-plus intangibles and swagger, Pickett is a pro-ready QB1 with the potential to take snaps as a starter early in his career,” Brooks wrote.
Brooks continued to say that his experience at Pitt makes up for some of his shortcomings as signal caller, such as not having the greatest arm.
“Although he lacks elite arm talent, the Pittsburgh standout’s collegiate seasoning (49 career starts) gives him a chance to make up for his deficiencies with superb managerial skills and expertise as a pocket passer,” Brooks wrote.
Pickett played the best collegiate season of his career last year, throwing for 4,319 yards, 42 touchdowns and just seven interceptions. His performance throughout the season lead Pitt to their first ever ACC Championship and an appearance in the Peach Bowl. He also won the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award and earned a spot as a Heisman finalist in New York City for his efforts last season.
