The Pittsburgh Steelers must fill two massive needs on day two of the 2024 NFL Draft. It’s not hard to figure out that the team needs a center and a wide receiver and will likely come away with both at some point in the 2024 NFL Draft. According to Tony Pauline, there are two clear players that they are interested in at 51.
Those would be Florida State’s Keon Coleman and Michigan’s Roman Wilson.
“I have the Pittsburgh Steelers selecting Keon Coleman with the 51st pick in my recent Day 2 mock draft. I’m also told Roman Wilson of Michigan is receiving consideration at that spot,” Pauline wrote.
In addition to that, Pauline says the team is sniffing around on veteran wide receivers and it would appear that they want to acquire one, which could signal a move for someone else at 51 instead of a wide receiver.
CBS Sports’ Emory Hunt thinks Coleman would be a perfect Day 2 pick for the Black and Gold. He also believes Coleman has similar traits to George Pickens.
“So one guy I have in mind, absolutely, is Keon Coleman, because he’s cut from the same cloth as George Pickens,” Hunt told Brian Batko of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette on the Chipped Ham and Football podcast. “I love guys that go up there and attack the football and do things in a spectacular manner. And Coleman to me is someone that’s just a spitting image of Pickens.”
Coleman is the 14th-ranked wide receiver in this year’s class by Derrick Bell of Steelers Now. Bell thinks Coleman needs to fine-tune his route-running at the next level. Pickens has often been criticized for not creating separation, too, but he’s better at it than given credit for, in my opinion.
The Steelers have remained strongly connected to Wilson throughout the scouting process. As Mike Tomlin, Omar Khan, Arthur Smith, and Teryl Austin trekked to Ann Arbor for Michigan pro day, they also reportedly met with Wilson before Michigan’s pro day. That’s just another string of interest from Wilson to Pittsburgh.
The first obvious sign of interest was when Wilson had himself an impressive week at Senior Bowl practice. He started off the season on a hot streak and seemed primed for a statistically dominant season, but as the Wolverines shifted towards more of a rushing attack, his numbers just naturally fell. But that has not discouraged the Steelers.
If they were to make a trade, it could be Courtland Sutton from the Broncos.
