NFL, NFLPA Announce 15 New COVID Cases from Recent Testing Period

In their weekly release detailing league-wide COVID-19 testing results, the NFL and NFLPA announced 15 new positive cases Tuesday stemming from their most recent battery of screening.

Of the 37,912 total tests administered between Oct. 4 and 10, there were eight confirmed positive cases among players and seven from staff members.

The NFL has had 39 total positive cases players and 60 among personnel dating back to Aug. 1. Over 400,000 total tests have been administered since then.

While the league had done a successful job of keep case numbers low throughout and training camp and the first few weeks of the season, the spike over the last testing period is most likely connected the Tennessee Titans’ outbreak and the recent positive cases for New England Patriots quarterback Cam Newton and cornerback Stephon Gilmore.

The Titans will play the Buffalo Bills on Tuesday night. Tennessee had their Week Four matchup with the Pittsburgh Steelers postponed until Week Seven.

Pittsburgh has not had any COVID-19 issues of its own since running back Jaylen Samuels was removed from the Reserve list a month ago on Aug. 13.
