The New York Jets could be getting their starting quarterback Zach Wilson back from injury when they visit the Pittsburgh Steelers next Sunday.

Baring no major setbacks, Wilson reportedly is expected to be medically cleared this coming week and make his season debut Week 4 in Pittsburgh, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

“With no setbacks and continued progress as he recovers from a meniscus tear and bone bruise in his knee, Jets quarterback Zach Wilson is expected to be cleared by doctors next week,” Rapoport tweeted Sunday.

Wilson initially suffered the injuries in the Jets’ preseason opener against the Philadelphia Eagles.

New York has turned to veteran Joe Flacco in Wilson absence. The longtime Steelers foil has thrown for 616 yards and five touchdowns with just one interception leading the Jets to a 1-1 start.

The Jets are looking for Wilson to make a significant leap in 2022, as he largely struggled a rookie last year. Wilson threw for 2,334 yards and nine touchdowns with eleven interceptions in 2021, after the Jets made him the No. 2 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft out of BYU.

The Jets will face the Cincinnati Bengals in an important game for the Steelers this Sunday afternoon. The Jets have already beaten the Cleveland Browns, and games against the Jets will go toward AFC record tiebreakers for the AFC North divisional foes that appear closely clustered in the early part of the 2022 season.
