INDIANAPOLIS — The Steelers’ quarterback carousel continues in Indianapolis. While the Steelers will be asked about many veterans, they are focusing their attention on the potential rookies this week. That includes Ole Miss product Matt Corral, who said Wednesday he has met with the team.

Corral popped onto the scene with an electric start to his 2021 season. While it waned a bit towards the end and finished with Corral suffering a high-ankle sprain, it was a productive season for his draft stock.

As a potential Steelers option at quarterback, Corral was pestered with questions about the Steelers and his thoughts on them. On his first day in Indianapolis, he had a formal meeting with the Steelers

“I spoke to the Steelers my first day here,” Corral said. “They are definitely a great group of guys and I would love to be a part of that group.”

Not only is Corral meeting with the Steelers, but he is well aware of the situation that he would be walking into. Being the heir to the throne of a Hall of Fame quarterback like Ben Roethlisberger is not a challenge that Corral runs from, he runs right in to that fire.

“Absolutely, who wouldn’t want to step in after a Hall of Fame quarterback,” Corral said. “It’s definitely just a blessing to be considered that a team wants me after having such a quarterback like Ben Roethlisberger.”

Corral ‘respects’ a coach like Mike Tomlin, and would love to play for a coach with his reputation. With Corral’s upside in athleticism and arm talent, he does fit what the Steelers are looking for at the position. He may be a realistic option to drop to the 20th overall selection as well. The Steelers are certainly interested, but how interested remains to be seen.
