The Pittsburgh Steelers completed the rebuild of their offensive line this past draft with selecting offensive tackle Troy Fautanu, center Zach Frazier and guard Mason McCormick. After drafting Broderick Jones and Spencer Anderson last season, the Steelers are loaded with young talent on the offensive line.
General manager Omar Khan and assistant GM Andy Weidl have emphasized the importance of having a strong offensive line. They want to dominate in the trenches
In Zoltán Buday of Pro Football Focus’ offensive line rankings, he had the Steelers tabbed as the ninth-best unit in the NFL.
“The Steelers spent back-to-back first-round picks on offensive tackles and then selected center Zach Frazier in the second round of this year’s draft. Those investments should pay off soon, and the team already got solid play from its guards in 2023,” Buday wrote.
“Isaac Seumalo, who Pittsburgh signed as a free agent last year, put together a good 2023 season after some initial struggles and finished the year as the 12th-highest-graded guard in the NFL.”
With Jones and Fautanu as the bookend tackles, Frazier expected to be a plug-and-play starter, and solid veteran guards in James Daniels and Isaac Seumalo, the Steelers should be set up for years to come on the offensive line.
PFF named the Steelers one of the most improved offensive lines after the 2024 NFL Draft.
“On paper, the offensive line rebuild the Steelers put together through the 2024 NFL Draft could go down as one of the best ever. They used three selections on the unit, all inside the top 120 picks in the draft. It started with Washington’s Troy Fautanu, whose 88.2 PFF pass-blocking grade in 2023 ranked fifth among FBS tackles. He can start at either tackle or guard,” Gordon McGuinness of PFF wrote shortly after the draft.
The Steelers should be a run-heavy team under new offensive coordiantor Arthur Smith. They certainly have the personnel to do so also. Mike Tomlin made that clear in an interview with the NFL Network during the draft.
“We just wanna roll people, man, to be honest with you guys,” Tomlin said about selecting three offensive linemen in the draft. “We have some backs that we like. We have a good offensive line.”
