2022 NFL Draft Senior Bowl Steelers News
Pitt’s Kenny Pickett, Liberty’s Malik Willis Named Top QBs at Senior Bowl
Liberty’s Malik Willis and Pitt’s Kenny Pickett have been named the top two quarterbacks at the Senior Bowl practices, director Jim Nagy announced on Friday.
Willis was named the top quarterback for the American team, while Pickett was selected as the top quarterback for the National team. Both were selected as the top quarterback on their squad by their defensive teammates.
Steelers Now sources confirm the opinion of the players that Willis and Pickett were seen top the list of quarterbacks from their performance this week by NFL staffs.
Pickett and Willis completed their three practice sessions for the week on Thursday and are expected to be the starting quarterbacks for their respective squads in Saturday’s Senior Bowl. Pickett’s National team also features Nevada’s Carson Strong and Cincinnati’s Desmond Ridder, while Western Kentucky’s Bailey Zappe and North Carolina’s Sam Howell are on the American squad with Willis.
The Pittsburgh Steelers showed significant interest in all six quarterback prospects at the Senior Bowl, with president Art Rooney II, general manager Kevin Colbert, head coach Mike Tomlin, offensive coordinator Matt Canada and quarterbacks coach Mike Sullivan all in attendance.
In addition to the six players in Mobile, Ole Miss quarterback Matt Corral and Western Michigan’s Kaleb Eleby are seen as first- or second-day options in the 2022 NFL Draft. As draft-eligible underclassmen, they were not eligible for selection to the Senior Bowl roster.
Saturday’s game will kick off at 2:30 p.m. from Hancock Whitney Stadium on the campus of South Alabama and will be broadcast on NFL Network.
