Pittsburgh Police Investigating Fight in Stands at Heinz Field

Pittsburgh Police are investigating a fight that occurred in the stands at Heinz Field during Saturday’s preseason game between the Steelers and Detroit Lions.

“The Pittsburgh Bureau of Police are aware of the incident that occurred in Heinz Field on August 21, 2021 between two spectators,” the department said in a statement posted to its social media accounts.

“Police are actively working with Heinz Field Security on the matter. Anyone with information is asked to contact Pittsburgh Police at 412-323-7800.”

Video of an altercation posted widely to social media showed three individuals — a black man and a white couple — involved in an argument that escalated to the point that punches were thrown.

The game was the first with a full-sized crowd at Heinz Field since the 2019 season, though attendance was only a little more than half capacity for the preseason game.

Such incidents are not unheard of. Video of a fight at an LA Rams game last week also went viral and resulted in the participants being banned from the stadium. A 2019 fight in the stands at Heinz Field resulted in a guilty plea to one count of harassment for one of the participants.
