Steelers Add Ravens Assistant DL Coach Jason Brooks to Staff
The Pittsburgh Steelers added to their coaching staff Friday, grabbing Jason Brooks from the AFC North rival Baltimore Ravens. Brooks was an assistant defensive line coach in Baltimore and will be a defensive assistant in the Steel City.
Brooks has a wealth of coaching experience, having worked on both the college and professional levels. His career began when he was a student assistant at Middle Tennessee State in 2006. The next year, he continued on to join the Miami Dolphins, with whom he was a scouting assistant and helped with tight ends.
From 2009-13, Brooks had his first stop in Baltimore. He served in various roles with the Ravens — namely offensive quality control coach. After being part of a Super Bowl champion, he headed back to the collegiate game. Until returning to Baltimore in 2021, he had jobs at Florida International, Maine’s Colby College, and Charleston Southern.
The fact that Brooks has worked across multiple positions and units — including special teams — makes him an intriguing add. Brooks’ father, Clarence Brooks, was an assistant for four different NFL teams in his coaching arc.
New linebackers coach Aaron Curry was the Steelers’ other coaching hire this off-season, after the team lost three from last year — most notably Brian Flores, who headed to Minnesota to be the Vikings’ defensive coordinator.
