PITTSBURGH — Alex Highsmith might have some awards coming his way. The Steelers’ Robin to T.J. Watt’s Batman secured a pick-six of Deshaun Watson on the first play from scrimmage and followed that up with a strip sack that would help the Steelers win. Highsmith’s game, combined with T.J. Watt balling out on the other side, flipped the game on its head, allowing the team to dominate up front and force Deshaun Watson into tough spots.
Alex Highsmith made the most out of what he was given against Jedrick Wills, who he has proven to get the better of throughout those two facing one another. Though, the strip sack admittedly is more on the scheme than Wills. Watson took an eight-step drop after allowing Highsmith to get upfield, forcing Wills to run after Highsmith. That is a tough assignment for any offensive tackle against a guy with enough burst like Highsmith.
Highsmith broke down that strip-sack and interception. He noted that it all came together with the energy that he and Watt created. Watt even threw the love back, and the two have created one of the more fearsome pass rush duos in the entire NFL due to their growth together. With Highsmith now around for the foreseeable future, that group will remain strong.
