Steelers Among Favorites to Trade for Jalen Ramsey

Jalen Ramsey

The Steelers are among the betting favorites to land Los Angeles Rams superstar cornerback Jalen Ramsey, according to new odds just released.

According to BetOnline, Ramsey has 12/1 (+1200) of landing with the Steelers. That is tied with the New England Patriots, Houston Texans, and Minnesota Vikings. Meanwhile, the New York Giants (+1100) and Cincinnati Bengals (+800) are favored ahead of them. The Detroit Lions (+125) and Las Vegas Raiders (+100) are the favorites to land the star cornerback in a trade.

The odds come after rumors that Ramsey could potentially be on the move. For over a month, rumors have sizzled around Ramsey to potentially land with the Steelers. However, with a hefty cap hit and draft capital cost, the move seems unlikely for both parties.

The on-field fit does make sense, but in realistic terms, the rumors are likely just the hopeful musings of many who want a proven elite cornerback to come to Pittsburgh. The Steelers are already focusing heavily on the defense in their draft evaluation at the Senior Bowl, and are far likelier to look towards retaining their own than pouncing on the idea of bringing Ramsey in.

Jalen Ramsey stands to be a hot player for teams go after as the Rams look to recoup a haul for him. However, don’t expect Pittsburgh to be the final destination. They’ll likely seem to to address it through the draft and free agency.

The Steelers do not have a bonanza of cap space to work with, and have to retain some key free agents in Cam Sutton, Terrell Edmunds, and others. Is there ways the Steelers can free up cap space? Yes, but not enough to give them flexibility to make moves like this. So, expect Ramsey to find a new home but for it to not be in the Steel City.
