Another Brother: Steelers Add Casey Weidl, Brother of AGM Andy, to Scouting Staff
The Pittsburgh Steelers have hired former Philadelphia Eagles scouting director Casey Weidl as scouting coordinator, according to the team’s website. Weidl is the younger brother of new Steelers assistant general manager Andy Weidl. Both brothers most recently worked for the Philadelphia Eagles.
With Philadelphia, Casey Weidl spent three seasons as director of scouting operations from 2019-21, one year as pro personnel coordinator and two years as college scouting coordinator. Before his time with the Eagles, Weidl was with the Buffalo Bills from 2012-15, serving as video intern, video assistant and manager of football operations.
Weidl is a 2009 Indiana University alum, where he was a student manager on the football team. He was a graduate assistant and received his masters degree from IUP in 2012. He graduated from Mt. Lebanon in 2005.
Weidl is the youngest of four brothers, with three of them holding NFL jobs. Kevin Weidl, the second-youngest, is an area scout for the Baltimore Ravens. Brennen Weidl works for PNC Bank. The Steelers have four sets of brothers on their active roster: Carlos and Khalil Davis, Terrell and Trey Edmunds, Cam and Connor Heyward and Derek and T.J. Watt
In addition to adding Weidl, the Steelers also hired Chris Watts as a college scout and Braunson Williams as a scouting intern.
Watts spent this spring as the general manager of the Pittsburgh Maulers of the USFL and before that worked as a scout for the Senior Bowl. He previously spent 14 years as a scout with the New York Giants.
Williams comes to the Steelers from Princeton, where he was a recruiting intern. He also interned with the New York Jets in 2021. Williams was the only of the three to acknowledge his new job on social media.
“Blessed to say I will be joining the Steelers as a scouting intern for the 2022-23 season!” https://twitter.com/BW__FB/status/1544043162393534465?s=20&t=3PrCsXqqOlDZzmLt7C-3Ow”>Williams
wrote on Twitter. “Huge thank you to the coaching staff at Princeton football for giving me a opportunity to be a part of the program!”
In addition to the three hires, the Steelers promoted Dennis MacInnis from BLESTO scout to pro/college scout, and Fawwaz Izzudin from scouting intern to BLESTO scout.
It has been an offseason of significant changes to the Steelers front office after the promotion of Omar Khan to general manager following the retirement of Kevin Colbert.
Cole Marcoux has been previously promoted to director of football administration to replace Khan. Assistant general manger Andy Weidl, director of pro scouting Sheldon White and director of player scouting Mark Sadowski are all new to the organization, while Dan Colbert (director of college scouting), Dave Petett (assistant director of pro scouting), Phil Kreidler (senior scouting assistant) and Kelvin Fisher (senior scouting assistant) were also given promotions.
Former scouting director Brandon Hunt, senior scouting assistant Rick Reiprish and college scout Bruce McNorton all left the team.
