šŸˆ Pro Football Talk:Ā The NFL found during the 2023 season that concussions were down mostly because kickoff returns were down, thanks to the new rule giving the receiving team the option of fair catching and getting the ball at the 25-yard line. But in an effort to keep concussions down but possibly add some excitement to kickoffs, the league will once again look at adopting the XFL rule, according to Mark Maske of the Washington Post.

The XFL rule requires 10 players on each team to line up five yards apart on the kickoff, with only the kicker and the returner permitted to line up elsewhere. Because the players are so close together, they donā€™t have time to get into a full sprint and there are fewer high-speed collisions than on standard kickoffs.

šŸˆ With 11 votes in his favor, Steelers star outside linebacker T.J. Watt was named NFL Networkā€™s Defensive Player of the Year, winning by a two-vote margin over Cleveland Browns edge rusher Myles Garrett. CBS Sports had Watt winning DPOY as well with a 17-8 vote over Garrett. The official award will be announced at the NFL Honors ceremony on Thursday, Feb. 8, at the Resorts World Theatre in Las Vegas.

šŸˆ T.J. Watt has the third-most sacks in the last 10 years, behind just Khalil Mack andĀ Aaron Donald. He’s been in the league for just seven years. Watt has 96.5 sacks in 104 career games.

šŸˆ Thursday marked the 52nd anniversary of when the Steelers selected Franco Harris out of Penn State at 13th overall in the 1972 NFL Draft. Ā Harris went on to win four Super Bowls with the Steelers in the 1970s and had a Hall of Fame career. He also made the most iconic play in franchise history with the Immaculate Reception.

šŸŽ„ Steelers safety and special teams ace Miles Killebrew caught six footballs during the High Stakes competition at the Pro Bowl Games.
