The Pittsburgh Steelers have done extensive work into the offensive line prospects in the 2024 NFL Draft already, which could allow the team to fortify their offensive line after years of subpar play up front. It’s a loaded offensive tackle class, and NFL.com has the team selecting Amarius Mims in the first round. Matt Miller of ESPN agrees with them, stating the Mims to the Steelers feels like a natural fit.
They are not the first person to do that, either. Daniel Jeremiah had the team landing Mims in the first round just weeks ago, and it does make sense to try to reinforce the offensive line when it appears to be rounding the corner, aside from two spots. He is becoming the popular pick given the Steelers’ affinity to drafting players from highly successful colleges, with former teammates Darnell Washington, George Pickens, and Broderick Jones already on the team.
If this pick happens, the Steelers will rebuild their offensive line, hopefully once and for all. It would give whoever is the quarterback some much-needed protection, and while Mims does not have a ton of tape on him, largely due to injuries, the tape out there is impressive. And he would already have some built-in chemistry with the group.
What sticks out about Mims so much? He is a high-end talent with beautiful footwork and an ability to get out in space and work. Honestly, his tape is a little bit more polished than you would think compared to Jones, especially with the level of experience that Mims has in college.
It’s not a slam dunk pick, but a guy like Mims wouldn’t make it to 20th overall in most years. This year is so deep and has top talent at other positions like wide receiver and cornerback that it’s feasible. And it would be a fantastic pick for the Steelers.
