Seahawks May Trade Former Steelers LB

Devin Bush did not have the career he wanted in Pittsburgh after they moved up in the first round to draft Bush with a top-ten overall pick. However, after leaving the Steelers and heading to the Seattle Seahawks, the new opportunity could breathe fresh air into Bush’s career. Except so far, Bush’s tenure in Seattle is going sideways.

The News Tribune beat writer Gregg Bell sees Seattle trying to move on from the former Steelers linebacker. They gave him some hefty guaranteed money, hoping Bush could reclaim the magic he found at Michigan and early in his NFL career. They could trade him despite suffering a concussion in their final preseason game.

“If Bush’s contract he signed as a free agent this spring didn’t guarantee he gets $2.99 million from the Seahawks this season, he could be cut,” Bell wrote. “They may be trying to trade him now that Brooks is back from his torn ACL to start with Wagner. Bush playing the first three quarters and getting a concussion covering a punt in the final preseason game, when all other veteran regulars were in sweatpants on the sidelines, makes one wonder.”

Early in the preseason, Bush appeared like a guy who made plays for the unit with Jordyn Brooks injured and Bobby Wagner watching from the sidelines. Since then, the health of Seattle improved, making Bush a likely rotational player and primary special teamer at best.

After that first game, Bush said he believes the Seahawks can be a powerhouse in the NFC West and win a Super Bowl in 2023. Contributions such as those he brought to the table during that first game could help Seattle be one of those teams that rises up from the crop in the NFC.

A reclamation project, the Steelers could never find the past glory Bush showed as a rookie before his torn ACL in his sophomore campaign. Surrounded by plenty of talented linebackers, Seattle now banks on that talent resurfacing under new conditions.
