Former Pittsburgh Steelers safety Jordan Dangerfield is calling it a career and is retiring from professional football, he announced on his Instagram account.

Dangerfield last played football in 2020 with the Steelers, but has failed to catch on elsewhere. The undrafted free agent out of Towson carved out a productive career for himself considering where he came from and his draft circumstances. He ended up playing in 8 NFL seasons and 7 with the Steelers from 2014 to 2020. Dangerfield started his career with the Buffalo Bills in 2013.

“I lived out my dream for 8 years & now it’s time to enjoy my family, chase new dreams and future endeavors,” Dangerfield said in the post. “I want to thank the game of Football & the blessings it has brought my family and most of all I’m healthy. God is Good‼️ Football, Thank you for the last 25 years. Thanks for the opportunities, the friendships that turned into family. Football has brought me places I could never imagine. Thanks to all my coaches for giving me the opportunity to play. Thanks to all my teammates for pushing me to be the best every day. Too many thanks to give out but you know who you are, THANK YOU!!!”

In the comments of the post, his former head coach Mike Tomlin congratulated him by saying, ‘congrats my man’, while others such as T.J. Watt, Cam Heyward, Bud Dupree, James Conner, and Maurkice Pouncey wished Dangerfield well in his retirement.

For the Steelers, Dangerfield became an unheralded player that ended up becoming the team’s special teams captain. That is where he made his mark. On the dirtiest part of the game and in the locker room as a leader for those 7 seasons. Now, Dangerfield is coaching in Florida, where he is from. He coaches defensive backs now for American Heritage High School.
