Franco Harris, legendary Steelers running back, will be named an honorary captain for the Steelers’ 34th Annual Run and Walk, the team announced on Thursday. It is in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Immaculate Reception, where Harris caught the game-winning pass against the Raiders.

The Steelers will play on Christmas Eve to honor the game as well. It will be in Pittsburgh, where the Immaculate Reception will be commemorated. The victory would kick off the legendary 1970s run of the Steel Curtain, where the Steelers would win 4 Super Bowls in the decade.

The run and walk will be held at Acrisure Stadium on September 3, 2022, at 8 A.M. All benefits from the event will go towards the Art Rooney Scholarship Fund and the Chuck Noll Foundation for Brain Injury Research. The track for the event will take runners and walkers all over the North Shore, with the race culminating at midfield in Acrisure Stadium.

This is one of many ways the Steelers and the NFL will try to market the 50th anniversary of the Immaculate Reception. It is one of the most iconic moments in the history of the NFL, and as such, is being treated as a big deal. Franco Harris is embroidered into Pittsburgh history as a result, and this only serves to remind of that legacy.
