Steelers Host WR Xavier Legette for Top-30 Visit
The Pittsburgh Steelers are hosting South Carolina wide receiver Xavier Legette for a top-30 visit
The Pittsburgh Steelers are hosting wide receiver Xavier Legette for a top-3o visit, according to Ray Fittipaldo of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Legette becomes the third known wide receiver to come to Pittsburgh for a pre-draft visit along with Western Kentucky’s Malachi Corley and Florida’s Ricky Pearsall.
Legette is a yards after the catch monster who broke out in his fifth year with the South Carolina Gamecocks. He is blazing fast and ran a 4.39 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine with a 40-inch vertical. The athletic traits are there for a guy who is 6-foot-1, 221 pounds, which could be more akin to the build of a running back than a wide receiver. But no matter, Legette fits the physicality and athleticism to create explosive plays in the Arthur Smith scheme. There is little doubt that he can pull that off. Legette reminds you, build-wise, of A.J. Brown
And while Arthur Smith’s offense might run a lot of 12 personnel, it does rely on players who can create easy yards after the catch and be dangerous with the ball in their hands. Oftentimes, those quick screens help extend the guardrails in the offense to allow the quarterback to succeed. One more receiver would help break the offense open in that regard, and a power-blocker could help push forward the run game component of his offense.
And so, after the Diontae Johnson trade, the Steelers have a huge need here, but Legette could be the type of player that they look to fill that void in during the NFL Draft.
