PITTSBURGH — Head coach Mike Tomlin said that Pittsburgh Steelers running back Najee Harris will be good to go this week, despite being seen on Monday with his right arm in a sling. Second back Jaylen Warren, on the other hand, will be limited this week and his participation in the Steelers’ Week 4 game against the Indianapolis Colts is very much up in the air.
Tomlin did not even list Harris in rundown of injured players at the start of his Tuesday press conference at UPMC Rooney Sports Complex on the South Side. When asked about Harris, Tomlin said that he will have no limitations this week.
“No limitations in Naj,” Tomlin said. “Naj will be ready to rock and roll.”
Warren, on the other hand, is apparently dealing with an injury of some significance. Tomlin reiterated that he pulled Warren from the game last week, citing the toughness of the third-year back, and said that he expects him to be limited in practice this week.
“He was limping in-game,” Tomlin said. “In the latter part of the game, I kind of noticed it. I pulled him from the game because I know Jaylen is tough. He’s just gonna go. We’ll see where his availability is as we work this week. I’d imagine he’s going to be somewhat limited (Wednesday) and we’ll see the trajectory of it in terms of including him or not in planning.”
Tomlin clarified that this is a new injury for Warren and not related to the hamstring injury that he suffered in the preseason that limited him in the season opener.
If one of Harris or Warren is unable to play, third running back Cordarrelle Patterson would be expected to step up into a larger role. Jonathan Ward is prime a candidate to be elevated from the practice squad in that scenario.
