Steelers Injury Updates: Arthur Maulet Out Sunday

Pittsburgh Steelers CB Arthur Maulet

PITTSBURGH — Arthur Maulet will not play Sunday against the Detroit Lions, he confirmed to Steelers Now. After suffering a hamstring injury a week ago, and missed the team’s game against the Jacksonville Jaguars with the injury. It occurred during a training camp practice.

Maulet sat out of Thursday’s practice with that hamstring injury. As such, the Steelers will be without their run-down nickel cornerback due to that injury against the Lions. In his place, Tre Norwood, Carlins Platel, and others should see more play in the slot. Maulet is expected to be a significant contributor to the Steelers’ subpackage defenses this season. Still, Maulet says it was not a setback for him.

“It hasn’t been a setback,” Maulet said. “I’m still developing and I’ll be back soon.”

Also occurring on Thursday was another day of limited work for Calvin Austin III. His foot injury continues to nag, and it is unlikely that he will play on Sunday. Still, Austin’s optimism that he expressed earlier this week was a positive sign. However, it is unclear exactly when the rookie receiver out of Memphis will be back.

Alex Highsmith is still working his way back from a rib injury. He was limited again on Thursday. The goal for Highsmith was to be ready for week one, and it appears he is starting to be on track to do just that. He is still unlikely to play against the Lions, but Highsmith looks to be ready to go against the Bengals.
