PITTSBURGH — Veteran offensive lineman Isaac Seumalo will have a chance to make his return from injury for the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 4 against the Indianapolis Colts, but if he does not, expect Spencer Anderson and Mason McCormick to continue to rotate at left guard in the meantime.

“Isaac is working his way back in the offensive line,” Tomlin said during his weekly Tuesday press conference at UPMC Rooney Sports Complex.

“We’ll we’ll see what his participation looks like this week and and let the quality and amount of that participation be our guide in terms of his participation. In the meanwhile, when he’s not participating, we’ll continue to do some of the things that we did at left guard last week in terms of Spencer and Mason both getting work and and watching those guys throughout the week to kind of decide how we divvy up the labor based on that performance.”

Seumalo has been out since suffering a pectoral injury during practice in the week between the preseason and the regular season. He was initially expected to miss four weeks, but could be back a week early with some practice participation. Seumalo was at practice last week doing solo work, but was listed as did not participate in the team’s injury report all three days.

Steelers offensive lineman Spencer Anderson

Anderson, the team’s seventh-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, made his first NFL start in place of Seumalo in the season opener against the Atlanta Falcons, and followed that up with a second start against the Denver Broncos in Week 2.

Anderson once again started in Week 3 against the Los Angeles Chargers, but he split time with rookie fourth-round pick Mason McCormick. Anderson played 56 snaps at left guard on Sunday, while McCormick played 12 snaps of guard and another 13 snaps as an extra offensive lineman, lined up outside the tackle as a jumbo tight end.

Tomlin and McCormick both said they had planned for the rotation in the week leading up to the Chargers game, and they’ll go into this week with that as the game plan once again.

The Steelers had rotated tackles in Denver, swapping Broderick Jones for Troy Fautanu for one disastrous series before benching Jones. That situation resolved itself when Fautanu was lost for the season to a knee injury.
