New FB Kendrick Green Destroying LBs at Steelers Training Camp
UNITY TWP., Pa — The Steelers have stumbled upon something in the fascinating realm of 310-pound, mack truck fullbacks. Kendrick Green repped at fullback for the first time ever on Friday, and now he is doing it again on Saturday, but it appears to be more than just a novelty.
On Friday, Kendrick Green had a massive block on Toby Ndukwe. Then, he caught a ball and took it for 10 yards, but not before having to be brought down by 3 guys. Lastly, he would pull on a block and clear the lane as a lead blocker so Darius Hagans could rip off a 15 yard run after that happened. But he wasn’t sure if it was a one-time thing or not.
“Probably not,” Green said, relaying the message he got from the coaching staff. “We’ll see. It was just something that Coach [Tomlin] wanted to see. … It might just be a today thing only.”
But it turns out it might be a thing. Green is back there. And he is doing it again. On Saturday, https://twitter.com/ASaunders_PGH/status/1687903792019185664?s=20″>Green
caught another pass, put his shoulder into Tanner Muse, got a hand down to keep balance, and kept going for about 10-15 yards. He can definitely do this thing.
He did have his first dud rep, but Alex Highsmith went under him. On the next play, Green pulled around the edge as the H-Back and absolutely destroyed the entire side of the line so Hagans ripped off another 15 yard run. He is a lead blocker and looks quite effective in doing it. For Green, that is not too big of a surprise. His strength has always been blocking in space and using his athleticism to destroy guys. It seems that Green is now having the game catered to his strengths and excelling as a result of that.
