PITTSBURGH — Mark Robinson is earning some more looks on the defensive side of the football for the Steelers. The second-year linebacker has impressed so far at OTAs, but he received a promotion on Wednesday. Robinson worked with the first-team defense alongside veteran linebacker Elandon Roberts.
Roberts confirmed that happened and gave lots of praise to Robinson for being a young guy with a ton of fire and energy. But more than that, the Steelers linebacker is one of the guy who has worked the most with Roberts over his time with the team at OTAs.
“I worked next to Mark,” Roberts said. “I’m always glad to have a chance to work next to them all. But it’s all different. Me and Mark have been together for the most part, though. When I get a chance to go with anyone else, it just means I have to hone in more on communication and other things.”
When talking to Robinson last week, he called the opportunity that he would receive this year a dream worth living. He is trying to play himself into more playing time after only getting some snaps at the end of the year. After an interception last Tuesday, he put himself on even more radars, now the Steelers are giving him a reward for strong play so far.
“This is a dream worth living,” Robinson said. “Everything you imagine, everything you dream, it’s there. It’s exactly how I thought it was going to be and more. It’s there.”
The Steelers brought in Roberts, Cole Holcomb, and Tanner Muse to help the inside linebacker spot. It comes after a complete overhaul, but Robinson is the lone holdover from the group. Known for his high-energy and physicality, Robinson is trying to find some consistency in his game outside of that physicality. However, it seems that he is finding some of that and now has an opportunity to capitalize.
