The Raiders will significantly boost their wide receiver corps on Sunday against the Steelers as Jakobi Meyers will return to the field after suffering a concussion against the Denver Broncos in Week 1. Meyers is the team’s slot receiver and main complement to Davante Adams after Las Vegas traded Darren Waller to the New York Giants.
Head coach Josh McDaniels said on Friday that Meyers cleared concussion protocol. Alongside Meyers and Adams, Hunter Renfrow comes into play, and that is before considering other weapons such as Josh Jacobs, Austin Hooper, and Michael Mayer that help out Jimmy Garopppolo.
Meyers came over from the New England Patriots on a deal for 3-years worth up $33 million with $21 million guaranteed. The team clearly places a lot of faith in what he can, and the Steelers had plenty of trouble containing Meyers last year when he was with the Patriots.
In the Week 2 clash that saw the Steelers fall to the Patriots, Meyers was targeted 13 times, caught nine of those targets, and posted 95 yards to become a real headache for Pittsburgh. It stands to say the Steelers will have to contain Meyers and Adams to stop the Raiders offense. That all has to come with the caveat of slowing down Jacobs out of the backfield, who has yet to get much going there.
For Pittsburgh, they are healthy, with most of the players on the active roster. Diontae Johnson and Cam Heyward are both out. Gunner Olszewski will miss the game with a concussion.
